Couples Relationships

Couple Relationships

Intimate relationships can be very rewarding and satisfying. Yet even the healthiest of relationships hit snags. Major life changes and transitions, job stress, and emotional overload can cause tension and conflict in a relationship. And when couples go through difficult periods, partners can feel misunderstood, unappreciated, hurt and disconnected.

For 25 years I have worked successfully and effectively with couples to help them in a safe, non-judgmental environment, get unstuck when things get off track. Conflicts between partners I see often revolve around one or more of the following concerns:

  • Renewing emotional and sexual intimacy
  • Handling anger and conflict/ communicating more effectively
  • Managing finances
  • Dealing with decision-making with their children
  • Alcohol or drug problems
  • Surviving an affair

My focus with couples is to work closely with them to help them recognize the dynamic or pattern of interaction that repeats itself in times of conflict and gets them off track when it escalates.

I provide strategies to short circuit the interaction since extended conflict can lead to real wounding and a lessening of emotional connection. As couples experience ways of limiting the length and intensity of the misunderstandings and arguments which occur around predictable themes, they can more effectively and calmly discuss their specific concerns. As communication improves and conflict subsides, couples can find renewed connection, trust, and intimacy.
